Heating

Your Shepherd’s Hut contains a wood burning stove which will ensure that you remain warm and cosy no matter what the weather is like outside. Firewood, kindling, fire lighters and matches are all provided for you and are stored underneath the stove, we ask that you only use these items in the stove. Additional firewood is also stored outside in a small wood store at the back of the Shepherd’s Hut. Should you require any more please just let us know.

You will also find a small plug in electric heater behind the chair in the living space and there is a heated towel rail in the bathroom. To turn the heated towel rail on and off please use the switch at floor level below the breakfast bar.

Cooking

Cooking facilities are provided in the form of an electric hob and a microwave. The hob is located on the dresser. Once in use the rings will remain active for 15 minutes.

A microwave is located under the hob inside the dresser.

Water and Shower

The hot water tank will provide around 7 minutes of hot water for a shower and will take around 15-20 minutes to heat up again after being completely used up.

Our water comes from a private water supply which is filtered and treated before being stored in a water tank outside the shepherd’s hut. At certain times of the year the water can appear slightly coloured. This is perfectly normal and is a result of the peat in the local soil. However, we have provided bottles of water and would advise that these are used for drinking.

First Aid and Emergency

For emergencies please dial 999.

For non emergency health advice please dial 111

A basic first aid kit is located in the bottom of the dresser.

Toilet

The toilet is an electric flushing caravan style toilet which flushes into a holding tank. This will be emptied for you on a daily basis (Access inside the shepherd’s hut is not required to carry out this task)

To flush the toilet please follow these instructions.

1 - press and hold the  button on top of the cistern. Whilst this button is being held down water will enter the bowl.

2 - pull the grey handle under the bowl firmly outwards. This will allow the contents of the bowl to empty into the holding tank.

3 - push the grey handle firmly back into place

4 - briefly press the button again on top of the cistern
